In a letter to Boris Johnson, she mentioned that she was stepping down from the federal government position to spend “treasured time” together with her household.
Ms Tolhurst, who represents Rochester and Strood, mentioned she hoped to have the chance to serve once more in authorities “within the fullness of time”.
She wrote: “Following on from some devastating information for my household, after a lot consideration and deep reflection, it’s with the nice unhappiness that I’m writing to inform you of my intention to step down from my position because the Parliamentary Beneath Secretary of State within the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Native Authorities, in order that I’m able to take care of, and spend some treasured time with my household within the coming months.
“It has been an immense privilege to serve in your Authorities below three totally different departments – in my present position as Tough Sleeping & Housing Minister, and beforehand because the Small Enterprise Minister within the Division for Enterprise, Power, and Industrial Technique, and as Maritime, Aviation, and Safety Minister within the Division for Transport.”
Downing Street mentioned that assistant whip Eddie Hughes has been appointed as her alternative.
Mr Johnson mentioned in reply to Ms Tolhurst that he was “very sorry” to obtain her resignation, and thanked her for her contribution to authorities.
He later tweeted to say his ideas have been with Ms Tolhurst and her family members at this “tough time”.
The prime minister wrote: “Kelly, very unhappy that you simply’re standing down from authorities. You’ve been an excellent minister at three departments however household should come first.
“My ideas are with you and your family members at this tough time.”
